The season opened with six effective innings from starting pitcher Billy Benedetto and three shut down innings from reliever Joe Santangelo.

"The 1st inning I couldn't find my release point. I finally found it in the second inning and started to get in the zone," said Benedetto.

NY Hawks defense was strong, pulling the Hawks out of a 1st and 6th inning jam. Ultimately pitching and timely hitting solidified the win.

Luis Amador (CF), Billy Benedetto (P), Nephty Cruz (C), Rich Quas (2B) and Andrew Tamas (SS) combined hits off of the Westchester Rays ace Scott Geiger giving the Hawks a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Rays did not quit, but could not get things going.

"The best part of the game was the timely hitting in the first and of course the great pitching by Billy and Joe who were nearly unhittable, recording 15 strikeouts combined," said Cruz.

The NY Hawks next game is Saturday, April 30, 2011 7:30 PM at Peekskill Stadium vs. the Westchester Angels.
